Boston University | BU Today
BU Today is Boston University’s daily news website and source for campus events, reflections from students and faculty, and profiles on inspiring people in the wider community. See below for some of my favorite projects, and visit this YouTube playlist for a full list of my 100 or so BU videos.
Boston Compass
Boston Compass Newspaper is a volunteer-run paper highlighting artists, events, and organizing since 2010. I volunteered as a video producer with BCN for a little over a year — creating short artist profiles, event recaps, and helping to coordinate with other media producers. Read their blog or find the latest physical copy (featuring a new cover artist every month) at mailboxes around the city.
Building Up People Not Prisons Coalition
The Building Up People Not Prisons Coalition represents incarcerated people, formerly incarcerated people, women, and families from the most incarcerated neighborhoods in Massachusetts. They organize in opposition to all new construction of jails and prisons, or any increase in spending on incarceration. I’ve helped produce video and audio content with three organizations in the coalition: Families for Justice as Healing, Justice 4 Housing, and New Beginnings Reentry Services. One organizing highlight of the past few years is the passage of the No Cost Calls bill, described in the first video on the top left, which makes phone calls from Massachusetts prisons free for all.
Defining Leadership
I first met Pauline Kaba in the spring of 2020, and we immediately jumped into this beautiful interview project for about 2 years. She had a vision for an open-ended, conversational series where artists could share anything that was on their mind — no time limits, no preconceived structure. I got to just set up three cameras and relax/listen <3
The Box Truck Film: Building a Reuseful Home
This is a feature-length documentary project by my friend Alex Eaves, a lifelong advocate for zero waste living. His plan to convert a used U-Haul into a tiny home — using almost exclusively used and discarded materials — has since come to life, with the help of legendary tiny home builder Derek Diedricksen. I helped to create their crowdfunding campaign video and was the videographer and editor for the full film, which is now playing on streaming services and touring the country.
Allston Pudding
I discovered Allston Pudding, a volunteer-led local music publication, during my eager search for creative community upon moving to Boston in 2015. At the time, AP’s volunteer video team was producing incredible live session videos, through the direction of Mattie Hamer. I had the amazing opportunity to join her and other local videographers in filming 5 of these sessions, and it was such a beautiful way to start my time living in Allston. All credit to Mattie for the lighting setups, art direction, and lead camera operation — my role was 2nd camera, typically the closeup shot.
Treebeard Media
Stephen LoVerme’s Treebeard Media has been documenting live music since 2011. I’ve been fortunate to help out with several of their pieces as a camera operator and occasional editor. Below are two that I was a team member for (did not edit the Glacier piece*)
